Next Sunday, 22nd of November 2015, Diego Simeone’s Atlético Madrid will travel to Andalusia to measure forces with Real Betis at the emblematic Benito Villamarin for Round 12 of the Spanish Liga BBVA.

After two consecutive defeats in the last days of September, Atlético Madrid rallied their troops and embarked in a positive streak of results in both domestic and international competitions. One might claim that a draw at Kazakhstan against FC Astana is not a particularly good result for the Colchoneros, but the truth is that the Champions League’s debutants are yet to be defeated at home so far in the competition.

Before the international break, Atlético Madrid had to dig very deep in order to overcome La Liga newcomers Sporting de Gijón at Vicente Calderon. The Asturian team had several chances to score and forced Jan Oblak to put up some top class saves throughout the match. Nevertheless, in injury time, Antoine Griezmann opened a breach in Gijón’s defensive wall and netted Atlético’s winning goal. It was the Frenchman’s fifth goal of the season and he is the team’s top scorer after 11 matches.

For the predictably complicated travel to Andalusia next Sunday, Diego “El Cholo” Simeone will not be able to rely on the contribution of Juanfran, who is sidelined due to injury, and he is not yet certain if both Jackson Martinez and José Giménez will recover from their respective injury problems in time for the match.

As for Real Betis, the Andalusia based team is currently on the eleventh place of the table with four wins from 11 matches so far this season.

La Liga’s newcomers are having a good season start so far and last round’s win at La Rosaleda has certainly injected an extra boost of motivation into Pepe Mel’s team. A second-half goal from the usual suspect Ruben Castro was enough to overcome their neighbours Málaga and to climb a few places in the league table.

For their next outing, Pepe Mel is not yet certain if he will be able to count on Amro Tarek, Juan Vargas and Vincenzo Rennella, who are all still recovering from their respective injuries.
