Next Saturday, 5th of March 2016, a somewhat fragilized Real Madrid will measure forces with Celta de Vigo at the emblematic Santiago Bernabéu for the opening match of Round 28 of the Spanish Liga BBVA.
Zinedine Zidane produced several changes in Real Madrid’s starting line-up for the match against Levante at Estadi Ciutat de Valencia. Suspensions and injuries forced the Frenchman to bring in some young players such as Lucas Vázquez and Borja Mayoral, but Real Madrid managed to leave the Comunidad Valenciana with the three points.
Levante started the match at full steam and the former Italian wonder boy Giuseppe Rossi would have opened the score if it wasn’t for the splendid stop by Keylor Navas, who returned to Estadi Ciutat de Valencia after having played three season for the Granotes. Despite the home side’s good start, it was Real Madrid who opened the score when Cristiano Ronaldo scored from the penalty spot. Four minutes later, the canterano Borja Mayoral hit the post with a powerful scorcher from outside the box, but the ball rebounded on Levante’s goalkeeper and ended up in the second goal of the night.
It was an overall pale performance by Real Madrid, who have only secured their win when Isco scored the 3-1 on injury time. For next weekend’s predictably complicated match against Celta de Vigo, Zinedine Zidane will still not be able to rely on the services of Marcelo and Karim Benzema, who remain sidelined due to injury. Luka Modric and Alvaro Arbeloa, who have not yet fully recovered from their respective injuries, are also in doubt out there.
As for Celta de Vigo, the Galician team extended their undefeated streak to three matches after conceding a goalless draw against Villarreal at Los Balaídos last time out. It was an extremely frantic match with both teams looking for the winning goal and with two goalkeepers, Sergio Alvarez and Areola, putting up some vintage performances.
Eduardo Berizzo’s men are currently on the 6th place of La Liga table, a stand that would allow them to have European football next season.
For next weekend’s difficult visit to Santiago Bernabéu, the Argentinean manager will not be able to rely on the contribution of Andreu Fontas, who will miss the rest of the season due to an Achilles’ tendon injury.
