Next Saturday, 31st of October 2015, the ten-time European champions, Real Madrid, will host the newcomers UD Las Palmas at Santiago Bernabéu for Round 10 of the Spanish Liga BBVA.
After a goalless draw at Parc des Princes in the middle of the week against Paris SG for the UEFA Champions League, Real Madrid traveled to Galicia to measure forces with the super Celta de Vigo and inflicted the first defeat of the season to the Galician team. Los Blancos started the match at full steam and the usual suspect, Cristiano Ronaldo, opened the score very early in the game. Fifteen minutes later, the former FC Porto right back, Danilo, netted the second, thus offering Real Madrid a comfortable goal margin very early in the match.
Celta de Vigo, however, didn’t lower their arms and tested Keylor Navas’ reflexes during several occasions. The Costa Rican goalkeeper put up another vintage performance that, in the end, allowed Los Blancos to leave Los Balaídos with the three points on their bags.
Real Madrid are currently at the top of La Liga’s table with the same points of FC Barcelona, but with a fairly more favourable goal difference than their eternal Catalan rivals.
For the upcoming clash against UD Las Palmas next weekend, Rafa Benitez is not yet certain if he will be able to rely on the contribution of James Rodriguez, Pepe, Karim Benzema, Gareth Bale, Arbeloa and Kovacic, all sidelined due to injury.
As for UD Las Palmas, the islanders have not been having the time of their lives on their return to La Liga so far this season. Los Amarillos are currently third from bottom, with just points from nine matches, but last weekend’s draw against Villarreal might be the catalyst they needed to get back on track.
After parting ways with their head coach, Paco Herrera, last week, UD Las Palmas announced the signing of Quique Setien as their new manager. The Santander born head coach, who had done a splendid job with Liga Adelante’s CD Lugo over the last six years, now has a Herculean task on his hands, but if we have in mind the quality football his teams usually display, we are forced to believe that the islanders have strong chances of success this season.
