Next Saturday, 17th of October 2015, the all-powerful Real Madrid will measure forces with an extremely inconsistent Levante at Santiago Bernabéu for Round 8 of the Spanish Liga BBVA.
After a disappointing home draw against Málaga later last month, Real Madrid secured an important 2-0 win over Malmö FF at Sweden in the UEFA Champions second group match. Nevertheless, such win wasn’t enough to motivate them to return to wins at La Liga, as Los Blancos failed to get anything better than a draw from the Madrid derby against Atlético before the international break. Real Madrid started the match at full steam with Karim Benzema scoring the opening goal very early in the match. Los Colchoneros, however, stood firm and leveled the score late in the second-half thanks to a goal from the newcomer Luciano Vietto. Atlético pulled rank in the last ten minutes of the derby and could have very well won the match, but Keylor Navas, who put up an almost vintage display, stopped Jackson Martinez’s intents.
Real Madrid are currently on the second place of table behind the league leaders of Villarreal, but their recent two consecutive draws, together with the controversy surrounding Rafa Benitez’ recent interview, reveal that something might not be working properly at Real’s kingdom lately.
Carvajal, Danilo and James Rodriguez will all miss the upcoming clash against Levante due to injury, while Karim Benzema is still in doubt for the match after picking up a hamstring injury during France’s midweek friendly match against Armenia.
As for Levante, the Comunidad Valenciana team is currently third from bottom at La Liga with six points from seven matches and they have proved to be fairly inconsistent so far. After a painful defeat at Coliseum Alfonso Pérez against Getafe late last month, Les Granotes surprised the league leaders, Villarreal, before the international break. A late goal from the Brazilian forward Deyverson was enough to inflict the first defeat of the season to the Submarino Amarillo and helped Levante climb some places in the table leaving Granada and UD Las Palmas behind them.
For their important match at Madrid, their manager Lucas Alcaraz will not be able to rely on the services of Angel Trujillo and of the Spanish youth international Iván López, since both of them are currently sidelined due to injury.
