Next Wednesday, 20th of April 2016, an extremely motivated Real Madrid will measure forces with Villarreal at the emblematic Santiago Bernabéu for Round 34 of the Spanish Liga BBVA.
After securing a place in the UEFA Champions League semi-finals, following their splendid comeback against VfL Wolfsburg in the middle of the week, Real Madrid showed no mercy on their neighbours of Getafe last time out. In the Madrid derby, Los Blancos smashed Juan Eduardo Esnaider’s “new” Getafe by 5-1 in the debut of the Argentinean head coach at the helm of the Azulones. Karim Benzema opened the score for the visitors on minute 29’ of the match after a superb assist by James Rodriguez. Eleven minutes later, Real Madrid doubled their lead when the erratic Spanish midfielder Isco passed the ball through Guaita and put a definite end to Getafe’s resistance. After the break, Gareth Bale extended the home side’s misery even further netting Los Blancos’ third goal on minute 50’. Getafe, nevertheless, did not lower their arms and still managed to pull one back by the talented Spanish attacking midfielder Sanabria, but Real Madrid piled on the pressure once again and clawed two more goals by James Rodríguez and Cristiano Ronaldo in the dying moments of the match.
For the upcoming predictably difficult match against Villarreal, Zinedine Zidane will not be able to rely on the services of Nacho, who picked his fifth yellow card of the season last time out and is currently suspended.
As for Villarreal, after outclassing Sparta Prague in the second-leg of the UEFA Europa League Quarter-finals in the middle of the week, the Submarino Amarillo failed to claw the three points during their visit to Vallecas last Sunday. Rayo Vallecano put an end to Villarreal’s recent undefeated league streak, thus dragging them to their seventh defeat of the current season. A late goal by Miku helped the Madrid team seal their 2-1win after Adrian had levelled the score in the first-half of the match.
For next Wednesday’s visit to Santiago Bernabéu, Marcelino Garcia Toral is not yet certain if he will be able to rely on the services of Musacchio and Bonera, who are currently sidelined due to injury.
