Next Sunday, 18th of October 2015, Diego Simeone’s Atlético Madrid will travel to San Sebastian in the Basque Country to measure forces with Real Sociedad at Anoeta for Round 8 of the Spanish Liga BBVA.

The Colchoneros weren’t able to get anything better than a draw after the always spectacular Madrid derby before the international break. Atlético had a slow start in the match, especially caused by Karim Benzema’s early goal, but they were strong enough to pull one back and ended up by pushing Real Madrid against the ropes in the dying moments of the match. Los Blancos’ goalkeeper Keylor Navas, who had a remarkable performance, denied what would have been the winning goal to Jackson Martinez just before the final whistle.

After the defeat at El Madrigal and their unexpected home setback against SL Benfica for the UEFA Champions League two weeks ago, Diego Simeone managed to rally the troops and avoid another defeat against their eternal rivals of Real Madrid.

Next weekend’s fixture at Anoeta will surely not be easy for Atlético, especially if we have in mind what happened last season, when Los Colchoneros lost to Real Sociedad by 2-1. For the travel to San Sebastian, Diego Simeone will probably not be able to rely on the contribution of Luciano Vietto, who is still recovering from injury.

As for Real Sociedad, their season start has not been particularly impressive so far. Three defeats and just one win in seven league matches is certainly not what their supporters were expecting for this new campaign.

After a goalless draw in the latest Basque Country derby, against Athletic Bilbao, David Moyes’ men succumbed at the hands of Málaga in the previous league round before the international break.

Life hasn't been easy for the Scottish manager at Anoeta and a defeat against Atlético Madrid next weekend might turn out to be the first of his last days at Real Sociedad.

Rául Navas is currently sidelined because of injury and he is in doubt for next weekend’s fixture against Los Colchoneros.
