Next Saturday, 16th of January 2016, a motivated Real Sociedad will measure forces with a somewhat fragilized Deportivo de La Coruña at Anoeta in San Sebastián for Round 20 of the Spanish Liga BBVA.
Real Sociedad have finally managed to put an end to their winless streak after overcoming Valencia at Anoeta last Sunday. The Basque team was in control for large periods of the match but only managed to score the winning goals late in the second-half. Two good crosses from the right wing by Carlos Martínez allowed the newcomer Jonathas de Jesus to score his second and third goals of the season. The versatile Brazilian forward, who arrived this season at San Sebastián, took Agirretxe’s place up front and did a good job in helping his team claw three important points.
Real Sociedad have only won five league matches so far this season and Eusebio Sacristán, who replaced David Moyes at the helm of the Basque team back in November, still has a Herculean task on his hands.
The upcoming match against Depor will surely not be an easy one, but a win is almost mandatory for Real Sociedad, since they are particularly close of the relegation zone at the moment. For that particular clash, Eusebio Sacristán will still not be able to rely on the services of Imanol Agirretxe and Sergio Canales, who remain sidelined due to injury.
As for Deportivo, after a home defeat against Villarreal, the Galician team visited Santiago Bernabéu last weekend, but failed to spoil Zinedine Zidane’s debut as Real Madrid’s head coach. Depor were hammered 5-0, but did in fact enjoy from the first goal chance of the match, when Pedro Mosquera assisted Lucas Pérez, but the Spanish journeyman failed to overcome Keylor Navas’ opposition.
Depor’s last league win was more than a month ago and, for that reason, obtaining the three points during their visit to San Sebastián next weekend is almost mandatory.
For that particular clash, Depor’s head coach, Victor Sánchez, will still not be able to rely on the services of Celso Borges and Fabri, both currently out with long term injuries.
Last Tuesday’s night, Depor were stunned at Riazor by a mighty CD Mirandés and ended up by being eliminated from the Copa del Rey. Such setback might negatively influence the team’s performance at Anoeta next weekend.
