Next Saturday, 19th of March 2016, a strong willed and organized UD Las Palmas will visit San Sebastian in the Basque Country to measure forces with Real Sociedad at Anoeta for Round 30 of the Spanish Liga BBVA.
After an impressive win at El Madrigal against Marcelino Toral’s super Villarreal, UD Las Palmas failed to overcome Real Madrid at Estadio Gran Canaria last Sunday’s night. The islanders put up an excellent overall performance against the all-powerful Real Madrid and Willian José’s late equalizer reignited the supporters’ hopes of at least clawing a point against Zinedine Zidane’s men. Two minutes later, however, the Brazilian defensive midfielder Casemiro shredded the islanders’ dreams heading home a corner flawlessly taken by Jese.
Quique Setién’s men controlled large periods of the match and even had a greater ball possession percentage than the visitors. UD Las Palmas have also enjoyed from plenty good opportunities to score, but Keylor Navas managed to frustrate their intents on most of occasions.
For the upcoming complicated fixture at Anoeta, Quique Setién will not be able to rely on the contribution from Pedro Bigas, who is currently suspended. Javi Castellano, who is recovering from a meniscus injury, will also miss out there.
As for Real Sociedad, after four consecutive wins back in February, the Basque team have returned to their usual inconsistency and were once again defeated when they visited Los Balaídos last time out.
An early goal by Iago Aspas was enough to defeat Real Sociedad, who nevertheless, have put a very decent performance.
The Basque team are comfortable sat at the 10th place of the table with 35 points from 29 matches and a win against UD Las Palmas next Saturday, might allow them to climb a few places in La Liga’s table.
For that important match, Eusebio Sacristán is not yet certain if he will be able to rely on the services of Imanol Agirretxe and Joseba Zaldua, who are still recovering from their respective injuries. Sergio Canales is out with a cruciate ligament injury and he will miss the rest of the season.
