Next Sunday, 8th of May 2016, a Rayo Vallecano struggling against relegation will visit San Sebástian to measure forces with Real Sociedad at Anoeta for Round 37 of the Spanish Liga BBVA.
Rayo Vallecano were close to cause Atlético Madrid a major upset when they visited Vicente Calderón last time out. Paco Jémez’s men put up an overall quality performance, but in the end suffered their second consecutive league defeat that kept them on the bottom part of the table, with the exact same points of Getafe and Sporting de Gijón, who are currently below the relegation line.
Rayo Vallecano leveled the match in the first-half and forced Burgos, who replaced Diego Simeone in Atlético Madrid’s dugout, to bring in Fernando Torres and Antoine Griezmann in a desperate attempt to claw the three points. The Frenchman didn’t wait long before netting Atlético’s winning goal and, one minute after coming in for Oliver Torres, Griezmann fired a powerful shot from outside the box to beat Juan Carlos, which only happened once during the match.
The upcoming fixture at San Sebástian is of the utmost importance for Rayo, who, in case of win, might climb a place in La Liga’s table. For that particular match, Paco Jémez will still not be able to rely on the services of Toño, Cobeño, Zé Castro, Raul Baena and Ebert, who remain sidelined due to injury. Piti, who was substituted again last time out because of injury, is in doubt for the match against Real Sociedad.
As for Real Sociedad, the Basque Country team almost managed to hold Real Madrid to a draw when Los Blancos visited Anoeta last Saturday. A late goal by the flying Welshman Gareth Bale inflicted Real Sociedad their 16th defeat of the season and extended their recent poor streak of results to four matches. Eusebio Sacristán’s men have only clawed one point from the last four competitive matches and are again going through an extremely negative moment at La Liga.
For the upcoming fixture against Rayo Vallecano, Eusebio Sacristán will probably still not be able to rely on the services of Imanol Agirretxe, Carlos Martinez and Inigo Martinez, who remain sidelined due to injury. Bergara and Zaldua will miss out there because of suspension.
