Next Sunday, 10th of January 2015, Gary Neville’s Valencia will travel to the Basque Country to measure forces with Real Sociedad at Anoeta for Round 19 of the Spanish Liga BBVA.
The former English international Gary Neville must be pleased with his players after they managed to claw two good results in just four days’ time. Last weekend’s 2-2 draw against Real Madrid has certainly paved the way for Valencia’s convincing 4-0 win over Granada in the first-leg of the 1/8 finals of the Copa del Rey. Los Che put up an overall quality performance against the Andalusia team, especially Alvaro Negredo, who got back in the team after Gary Neville’s arrival and who scored an hat-trick last night at Mestalla.
Los Che have been failing to win a single league match since last November when they snatched a spectacular 5-1 at Los Balaídos against Celta de Vigo. Gary Neville is, for that reason, still looking for his first win at La Liga, but next weekend’s match at Anoeta will certainly not be an easy one. Gaya, Mustafi and Feghouli are still recovering from their respective injuries and they are in doubt for the trip to San Sebastian.
As for Real Sociedad, the historical Basque team is currently going through a complicated period as they’ve failed to win any of their last four league matches and were also eliminated from the Copa del Rey along the way.
After being defeated at Santiago Bernabéu by 3-1, in a match where the team displayed some pleasing moments of football, Real Sociedad were held to a draw on their visit to Vallecas. A second-half goal by the Portuguese talented winger Bruma helped the Basque team rescue a point from their match against Rayo Vallecano, but it wasn’t enough to free them from the shackles of the bottom of the table, where they are currently dangerously close to the relegation zone. For next weekend’s complicated match against Valencia, Eusebio Sacristan will not be able to rely on the contribution of Markel Bergara, who is currently suspended. Sergio Canales and Imanol Agirretxe will also miss out there due to injury.
