Next Sunday, 17th of April 2016, a somewhat fragilized Sevilla will measure forces with an inconsistent Deportivo de La Coruña at the emblematic Estadio Ramón Sánchez Pizjuán for Round 33 of the Spanish Liga BBVA.
Sevilla extended their poor league streak of results last weekend after losing to a Valencia in need for points at Mestalla. It was the Andalusia team third consecutive defeat at La Liga and a blatant sign that something is not working at Unai Emery’s team.
After their moralizing win at San Mamés for the first-leg of the UEFA Europa League Quarter-finals in the middle of the week, Sevilla weren’t able to at least bring a point from their visit to Comunidad Valenciana. A last minute goal by Spanish international Álvaro Negredo shredded the possibility of Sevilla clawing at least one point from their last three league matches.
Sevilla were losing 1-0 when Kevin Gameiro leveled the score on minute 86’ restoring Los Sevillistas’ faith, but Negredo’s goal four minutes later proved to be a major setback on the Andalusia team’s aspirations.
For the upcoming fixture against Deportivo de La Coruña, Unai Emery will not be able to rely on the services of Tremoulinas and Andreolli, who are currently sidelined because of injury.
Before the match against Deportivo, Sevilla will still measure forces with Athletic Bilbao for the second-leg match of the UEFA Europa League Quarter-finals.
As for Deportivo de La Coruña, the Galician team was surprised at home last Monday night by a mighty and well organized UD Las Palmas to concede their 9th defeat of the season. Depor were in control during the first-half of the match, but have only managed to open the score after the break thanks to a goal by the usual suspect Lucas Pérez. The visitors, however, were determined in secure a place at La Liga next season and pulled up a massive comeback winning the match the 3-1 with two goals by Sergio Araujo and another by David Garcia.
For the upcoming visit to Andalusia, Depor’s head coach Victor Sanchez will still not be able to rely on the services of the Argentinean goalkeeper, German Lux, who remains sidelined with a knee injury. Spanish defender Alejandro Arribas will also miss out there due to suspension.
