Next Friday, 12th of February 2016, a motivated Rayo Vallecano will travel to Asturias to measure forces with Sporting de Gijón at the emblematic El Molinón for Round 24 of the Spanish Liga BBVA.
After their splendid win at Mestalla against Valencia, Sporting de Gijón managed to extend their undefeated streak by clawing a home draw with Deportivo de La Coruña last time out. It was a very entertaining clash at El Molinón between two teams that avidly tried to secure the three points throughout the match. The Asturian team opened the score on minute 32’ after Jony’s volley deflected on a defender leaving German “Poroto” Lux without any chance to reach the ball. The goal have not affected Depor that managed to clinch the equalizer ten minutes later when Luis Alberto sent home an excellent assist by Lucas Pérez. After the break, both teams continued to look for the winning goal but they failed to do so and the match ended in a 1-1 draw.
For next Friday’s important match against Rayo Vallecano, Gijón’s head coach, Abelardo Fernández will not be able to rely on the services of Bernardo, who will miss the rest of the season due to a knee injury. The Spanish former wonder boy Juan Muñiz is still recovering from a sprained ankle and he is in doubt out there.
As for Rayo Vallecano, the Madrid based team managed to extend their undefeated streak to four matches after overcoming UD Las Palmas at Vallecas last Saturday. It was a fantastic football afternoon between two teams that despite being struggling at the lower part of the league table, know how to play the game. The Venezuelan striker Miku, who is going through a very good moment, opened the score very early in the match and the former Manchester United’s winger Bebé sealed the win in the second-half.
For next Friday’s visit to El Molinón, Paco Jémez will not be able to count on the contribution of David Cobeño, Toño, Razvan Rat and Patrick Ebert, who remain sidelined due to injury.
