Next Friday, 14th October 2016, Quique Sétien’s highly synchronized UD Las Palmas will measure forces with Espanyol at Estadio Gran Canaria for the opening match of Round 8 of La Liga Santander.
After holding the all-powerful Real Madrid to a draw at Gran Canaria, UD Las Palmas had to dig very deep in order to rescue a late draw when they visited El Sadar last time out. The islanders struggle to cope with Osasuna working force during the first-half of the match and went to the break losing by 2-0. Things, however, have changed significantly in the second-half with UD Las Palmas pushing the Pamplona outfit against the ropes for most of the time. A late goal by David Garcia helped the islanders to claw one point from their visit to Navarra.
David Simon and Nabil El Zhar are recovering from injury and are doubts out for next Friday’s match against the Catalan outfit. Hélder Lopes is currently dealing with a muscle injury and will miss out there.
As for Espanyol, after their late home defeat against Celta de Vigo, the Catalan outfit have failed once again to claw the three points in their last round’s match with Villarreal. Los Pericos failed to get anything better than a goalless draw against the Submarino Amarillo and failed at the same time to pull off a decent performance.
Espanyol have only won a league match so far this season and are currently third from bottom at La Liga table. Oddly enough, Quique Flores’s men only league win was granted away from home, when they visited El Sadar last September.
Pablo Piatti is back in training after recovering from a calf injury and is an option out there. Felipe Caicedo, on the other hand, is currently dealing with a muscle injury and is in doubt for next Friday’s visit to Gran Canaria.
