Next Sunday, 31st of January 2016, UD Las Palmas will measure forces with motivated Celta de Vigo at Estadio Gran Canaria for Round 22 of the Spanish Liga BBVA.

On the day that Giuseppe Rossi made his return to La Liga, it was José Luis Morales who put up a vintage performance by contributing with two goals for Levante’s win over UD Las Palmas. The islanders were defeated for the eleventh time this season and they are now on a perilous situation, right in the relegation zone of the league table.

Quique Setién changed UD Las Palmas for good after his arrival back in October, but the team keeps struggling back in defence and such was blatantly obvious in last Monday’s match at Estadi Ciutat de Valencia.

To make things even worse for Los Amarillos, the team ended up by being eliminated from the Copa del Rey Quarter-finals after losing to Valencia at Estadio Gran Canaria last Thursday’s night. The islanders had everything in their favour to walk through to the next round after clawing a draw at Mestalla last week, but an early goal by Rodrigo in last night’s match proved to be enough to kick UD Las Palmas out of the competition.

For next weekend’s complicated league match against Celta de Vigo, Quique Setién will not be able to rely on the services of Vicente Gomez, who is currently recovering from a broken collarbone, and of Javi Castellano, who remains sidelined with a meniscus injury.

As for Celta de Vigo, the Galician team was heavily hammered when they visited Vallecas last weekend, but in just a few days, they managed to lift their heads and clawed a fantastic 3-2 at Vicente Calderón in the second-leg of the Copa del Rey Quarter-finals.

Celta certainly want to quickly forget last Saturday’s nightmare at Vallecas, in a match for which Eduardo Berizzo produced several changes in the starting XI in order to rest some players for the important match against Atlético de Madrid in the middle of the week.

Berizzo’s savings produced, nevertheless, a good result, since Los Celestes booked a place in the Copa del Rey Semi-finals after last Thursday’s spectacular win at Vicente Calderón.

For next Sunday’s predictably complicated visit to Gran Canaria, “Toto” Berizzo will not be able to rely on the contribution of the new arrival Marcelo Diaz, who remains sidelined due to a hamstring injury. The young talented goalkeeper Ruben Blanco and the Spanish centre back Andreu Fontas are undergoing treatment for their minor injuries and they are in doubt out there.
