Next Wednesday, 30th of December 2015, UD Las Palmas will measure forces with Granada at Estadio Gran Canária in the Canary Islands for Round 17 of the Spanish Liga BBVA.
After defeating Real Bétis at home and eliminating Real Sociedad from the Copa del Rey at Anoeta, UD Las Palmas succumbed at the expense of Espanyol last time out.
UD Las Palmas didn’t have the best of times during their visit to Catalunya before the Christmas break. Quique Sétien’s men failed to impose their usual attacking game style and they were somewhat surprised by an extra motivated Espanyol after the arrival of their new head coach Constantin Galca. A second-half goal by Felipe Caicedo sentenced the match and inflicted the islanders their ninth defeat of the season.
The upcoming match against Granada is of the utmost importance for UD Las Palmas, who, in case of win, will change places with the Andalusian team at the league table. Quique Sétien’s men tend to be a fairly strong and consistent team when playing at home and they will certainly try to take the most from the upcoming match in order to try to leave the relegation zone already next Wednesday.
Aythami, who is currently suspended, Angel Lopez and Javi Castellano, dealing with a meniscus injury, will all miss out there. David Garcia, who is still recovering from a hip injury, is in doubt for the important clash against Granada.
As for Granada, after two consecutive wins, the Andalusia team were once again defeated when they hosted Celta de Vigo at Estadio Nuevo Los Cármenes last time out. Two first-half goals by Fabian Orellana and Iago Aspas proved to be enough to defeat the Nazaries, who weren’t able to put up a strong reaction after the break.
Granada are currently fourth from bottom with just 14 points from 16 matches and they share the same amount of points of Rayo Vallecano, who are by now below the relegation zone.
For the extremely important clash at the Canary Islands next Wednesday, José Sandoval will not be able to rely on the services of the Nigerian forward Isaac Success, who is currently suspended. Rochina and Thievy Bifouma are still recovering from their respective injuries and they are in doubt out there.
