Next Sunday, 10th of January 2015, a completely refurbished UD Las Palmas will measure forces with an extremely motivated Málaga at Estadio Gran Canaria for Round 19 of the Spanish Liga BBVA.
After a solid 4-1 home win over Granada in the last match of 2015, UD Las Palmas held Athletic Bilbao to a draw at San Mamés and clawed an extremely valuable point. The islanders experienced some difficulties, especially in the first-half, but they showed a great mental strength to not only to get back in the game after being 1-0 down, but also to clinch the equalizer on minute 81’ by Tanausu.
UD Las Palmas extended their good run in the middle of the week after clawing a fantastic 3-2 at Ipurua against SD Eibar for the first-leg of 1/8 finals of the Copa del Rey. Quique Sétien’s men put up another excellent performance with plenty of ball possession and some attractive attacking football, which allowed them to score their winning goal in the last minutes of match by Momo.
For the upcoming predictably complicated home match against Málaga, Quique Sétien will not be able to rely on the contributions of Hernan, Javi Castellano and Angel Lopez, who are all currently sidelined due to injury.
As for Málaga, the Andalusian team is currently on a fantastic run, having won their last four league matches. After inflicting Atlético Madrid their third defeat of the season before the Christmas break, Málaga overcame Levante at Comunidad Valenciana in the last match of the year and started 2016 with a solid win over Celta de Vigo at La Rosaleda.
Javi Gracia’s men are extremely motivated at the moment and a win against UD Las Palmas next Sunday could help them to climb a few places in La Liga’s table.
For that particular match, the Pamplona born head coach will not be able to rely on services of Nordin Amrabat and the Brazilian forward Charles, who are currently suspended. Flávio Ferreira, Juan Carlos and Miguel Torres, who are sidelined due to injury, will also miss out there.
