Next Monday, 25th of January 2016, a rejuvenated UD Las Palmas will visit the Comunidad Valenciana to measure forces with Levante at the Estadi Ciutat de Valencia for Round 21 of the Spanish Liga BBVA.
After an excellent five matches streak without a single defeat, UD Las Palmas succumbed last weekend at the expenses of the league leaders, Atlético Madrid at Gran Canaria. Los Amarillos were in control for some periods of the match, with a considerably higher percentage of ball possession than the visitors, but they weren’t able to react effectively to Filipe Luis’ goal on minute 17’ of the first-half.
Quique Sétien’s men did not, however, lower their heads and clawed an important 1-1 draw at Mestalla for the first-leg of the Copa del Rey Quarter-finals in the middle of the week. Los Amarillos put up a solid performance and exposed Valencia’s limitations, especially during the first 45 minutes.
The upcoming match against Levante is of the utmost importance for UD Las Palmas’ quest against relegation. Vicente Gomez, who suffered a serious shoulder injury at Mestalla last Thursday, will be out for quite some time and he will miss out there. Javi Castellano and Hernan, who are undergoing treatment for the respective injuries, will also not travel to Comunidad Valenciana.
As for Levante, the Valencia based team was involved in a fantastic football match at Los Balaídos last weekend, but ended up defeated by 4-3. Les Granotes showed once again that they are a good team and that they probably don’t deserve to currently be at the bottom of the table. Things are not easy for Levante’s boss, Rubi, but it is fair to say that the team have improved significantly after his arrival back in October.
Levante have only won three league matches so far this season and their goalscoring record is fairly low after 20 matches.
Jefferson Lerma, who is currently suspended, will miss next Monday’s important match against UD Las Palmas. Jose Mari and Ruben Garcia, who are still recovering from their respective injuries, will also miss out there.
