Next Monday, 4th of April 2016, Sporting Gijón will visit the Comunidad Valenciana to measure forces with Levante at Estadi Ciutat de Valencia in a battle for points in the last match of Round 31 of Liga BBVA.
Sporting Gijón have finally managed to put an end on their extremely negative streak of results after overcoming the all-powerful Atlético Madrid at El Molinón before the international break. The Asturian team put up a very good performance and ended clawing a well deserved 2-1 win with two late goals by Sanabria and Carlos Castro.
Sporting Gijón have only won seven league matches so far this season and they are currently second from bottom. They are on a perilous position in the league table, but a win against Levante UD next Monday could help them to at least climb one place at the bottom of the table. For that particular match, the Asturian team head coach, Abelardo Fernández, will not be able to rely on the services of Alex Ménende and Bernardo, who are currently sidelined due to injury. The talented young defender Jorge Meré will also miss the match due to suspension. The canterano Carlos Castro, who netted the team’s winning goal last round, is still in doubt because of a minor injury.
As for Levante, the Comunidad Valenciana team keep sailing through troubled waters of La Liga this season and they don’t seem to find a way to leave the last place of the league table. After their impressive home win in the local derby against Valencia, the Granotes failed to extend their winning streak during their visit to Riazor last time out being defeated by 2-1.
Depor opened the score at the end of the first-half, but after the break the Italian wonderboy Giuseppe Rossi leveled the score with a superb individual effort. In the last ten minutes of the match, an unfortunate moment by Levante’s goalkeeper Diego Mariño allowed the home side to seal the win.
For next Monday’s important match against Sporting Gijón, Levante’s head coach Rubi, will not be able to count on the contribution of Iván López, who is struggling with a knee injury. Simao will also miss out there due to suspension.
