Next Sunday, 15th of May 2016, a Getafe fishing for points will visit Andalusia to measure forces with Real Betis at Benito Villamarin for the last day of the Spanish Liga BBVA.
It was a frantic match, the one that put Getafe and Sporting de Gijón head-to-head at Coliseum Alfonso Pérez last weekend. The two teams, who are still heroically battling against relegation, put up a spectacular match that ended with a 1-1 draw.
Juan Esnáider’s men were the most solid team throughout the match, especially in the first-half, where they tested the Asturian team’s goalkeeper Iván Cuéllar on several occasions. The Mérida born goalkeeper put up a vintage performance to avoid Getafe’s win at the end of the 90 minutes and wasn’t only capable of stopping Stefan Scepovic’s powerful header in the dying moments of the match.
Since Juan Esnáider took the helm of the team, Getafe were only defeated on one occasion, it was against Real Madrid on the Argentinean manager’s debut with the Azulones. After that match, Getafe rallied troops and clawed 8 points from 12 possible and are now only depending on themselves to secure a place above the relegation line, thus securing their spot at the Spanish football top tier next season.
For the upcoming difficult and important match at Andalusia against Real Bétis, Juan Esnáider will not be able to rely on the services of the canterano Vigaray, who is currently suspended. Roberto Lago and Victor Rodriguez will also miss out there due to injury.
As for Real Betis, after an extremely inconsistent campaign, the Andalusia team are already safe from relegation and next weekend’s clash doesn’t mean much for them. Last weekend, Real Betis pulled of a 1-1 draw at Ipurua against SD Eibar with a goal by the usual suspect Ruben Castro, who was again the team’s top scorer this season, netting 18 goals from 37 matches so far.
For next Sunday’s match against Los Azulones, Juan Merino will not be able to rely on the contribution of Adán and Álvaro Cejudo, who are both currently suspended. Piccini will also miss out there due to injury.
