Next Sunday, 4th of October 2015, the league leaders, Manchester United, will travel to London to measure forces with Arsenal at the Emirates Stadium for Round 8 of the English Premier League.
Three defeats in the last five matches is probably not the best of records for Arsene Wenger’s men. Arsenal extended their miserable UEFA Champions League campaign in the middle of the week, succumbing at Olympiakos Piraeus’ hands in London. The Gunners revealead once again their defensive limitations and their Colombian international goalkeeper David Ospina had a night to forget. Arsenal are at the bottom of their group with two defeats in two matches and in the next round they will be up against Pep Guardiola’s super scoring machine, Bayern Munich.
As for their English Premier League campaign, the Gunners have also been far from impressive, since they have already conceded two defeats and one draw in just seven matches. Over the weekend, however, Arsenal put up an abrupt end to Leicester almost epic league start defeating them at King Power Stadium by 5-2. An utterly inspired Alexis Sanchez led his team to victory against a team that had not yet experienced the sour taste of defeat until last Saturday.
The upcoming match with Manchester United will be a major test for Arsenal and an eventual defeat will only serve to increase the discontent towards Arsene Wenger.
As for Manchester United, after their abnormal inconsistency from the last couple of seasons, the Red Devils are now enjoying a successful start at the English Premier League and they lead the table after seven rounds. After an extremely complicated match at Southampton two rounds ago, United snatched a solid 3-0 home win over Sunderland before their important UEFA Champions League last week. The Red Devils had been defeated for the group stage opening match at Eindhoven against PSV and were “forced” to win their clash with Wolfsburg at Old Trafford. Louis Van Gaal rallied the troops for an outstanding comeback against a German side that even got an early lead in the match thanks to a goal from Caligiuri. The Red Devils did not lower their arms and ended up winning 2-1, with goals from Juan Mata and Chris Smalling.
