Goodison Park has been the venue for the reputable Premier League clubs in the past month or so after hosting Manchester City, Chelsea and Liverpool in the past 3 matches. It doesn't get much easier for Roberto Martinez's men as they now prepare for Manchester United who are up next. Everton have come from behind in their last 3 consecutive matches to defeat Reading and West Bromwich Albion and gained a creditable draw against Liverpool in the Merseyside derby last time out.
Manchester United surrendered their spot at the top of the Premier League table after incredibly going 3-0 down in 20 minutes against Arsenal that exposed their defensive vulnerabilities and further questioned whether Daley Blind can still be operated as a natural centre half. 4 successive victories in the space of 4 days in 3 different competitions looked to gain some momentum for Louis Van Gaal's men but that was brought crashing down in emphatic fashion at the Emirates.
This fixture typically in the past has been more favourable towards the home side with 9 out of the last 13 meetings the home side coming out victors. Manchester United's defeat saw them slip down to 3rd position and Everton currently sit in 7th position and have been steadily climbing up the table. Everton have only suffered 1 defeat this season and that was at Goodison Park to United's neighbours, Manchester City.
Roy Hodgson was left cursing his luck as a host of players represented by both clubs were ruled out through injury. Luke Shaw, Tom Cleverley and Leighton Baines were already ruled out of the England set up but John Stones pulled out of the squad with a knee injury. Wayne Rooney and Michael Carrick have also picked up respective injuries that left them out of consideration for England's qualifiers against Estonia and Lithuania.
Everton have won the last 3 at Goodison Park against Manchester United and have also kept 3 clean sheets in the process but with the potential injury doubts concerning Seamus Coleman and John Stones, Martinez will be left cursing his luck at his defensive casualties.
