Leicester’s sensational run continued but for Jamie Vardy his personal triumphs came to an end as he looked to equal another record but he’ll just have to settle on breaking the all-time Premier League record for consecutive matches in scoring. Claudio Ranieri’s side continue to defy belief after recording their 2nd consecutive 3-0 victory away from home after impressively beating Newcastle United a fortnight ago. Riyad Mahrez started the season in sensational form with a number of goals but although his goals have dried up, he has provided a number of assists this season, most notably for Vardy. However, the midfielder scored a stunning hat trick against Swansea City on Saturday to take him to 10 Premier League goals for the season. Fans will be dreaming of Premier League success after leading the Premier League after 15 games and just 1 defeat to their name.
Chelsea suffered an all-time low when they lost to Bournemouth on Saturday evening. It was the first time in 14 years they’ve lost at home to a newly promoted side but Bournemouth managed to battle to a 1-0 victory where Artur Boruc played through the pain barrier to make 7 saves and perform heroics to deny Jose Mourinho’s side. Mourinho’s Chelsea are now incredibly sitting just 2 points above the relegation zone after victories for Newcastle and Bournemouth. Diego Costa was once again dropped but Chelsea struggled immensely and although Roman Abrahmovic is backing his man and could give him money to spend in January’s window, who realistically can Chelsea get midway through the season that will be more potent than Diego Costa who is a shadow of the player that graced the Premier League last year in his debut season.
Chelsea haven’t scored in consecutive Premier League games for the first time since September 2013 where they drew Manchester United at Old Trafford before losing to Everton at Goodison Park. Chelsea have registered just 1 goal Premier League goal in the past 4 games (Norwich City 1-0 victory) and haven’t scored 2 or more goals in a league game since the middle of October. Leicester meanwhile have kept 2 clean sheets in the past 3 games after keeping just 1 in their previous 15 games in all competitions. Chelsea have won the past 8 meetings between these 2 sides.
Leicester kept the same side for almost the entire game against Swansea City which is a credit to the player’s motivation and devotion. Claudio Ranieri is very likely to field the same line up that has been phenomenal this season. Chelsea however could make changes after their latest setback. Thibaut Courtois made his long awaited return from injury after missing 17 games with a knee injury. Ramires and John Terry were missing against Bournemouth and both will struggle to make the trip to Leicester.
