Next Saturday, 15th of August 2015, a super moralized West Ham will go head-to-head with Leicester at the Boleyn Ground for round 2 of the English Premier League.
It was not fair to claim that West Ham were the worst team in the World after being defeated by Astra, nor to state that they the very best for defeating Arsenal at the Emirates last Sunday. Nevertheless, one must admit that the Hammers' overall performance against their old time neighbours and rivals was simply remarkable. Their new manager, Slaven Bilic, who was accused of being naive or even talentless by some pundits over the recent weeks, showed that he is fully aware of what he is doing and that he is slowly building a team that could make an impact throughout the season. The Croatian head coach was even brave enough to field Reece Oxford, a 16-year old defensive midfielder, that showed some great moments, until he was replaced by Kevin Nolan later in the second-half. West Ham revealed an excellent tactical culture and made the best out of Arsenal’s defensive frailties, especially from Dimitri Payet’s poisonous free kicks.
West Ham still have plenty to prove and they will have a great opportunity to show how good they are when they entertain Leicester at London next Saturday. The Hammers were not particularly impressive when playing at the home during the pre-season period, but things are different now and last weekend’s win will surely give them the motivation they need to make amends in front of their loyal and enthusiastic supporters.
As for Leicester, The Foxes are going through a particularly great moment as they have not been defeated for official matches since last April when they succumbed at home at the hands of the current EPL champions, Chelsea.
A new manager, Claudio Ranieri, has arrived last summer, but The Foxes were apparently able to adapt to the Italian boss's game style quite quickly. A solid performance, especially during the first-half, and a solid win to go along with were the highlights of Leicester's 4-2 victory over Sunderland last weekend.
Leicester away record against West Ham is far from being impressive and the last time The Foxes brought the three points from their visit to Boleyn Ground was back in the year of 2000.
